Visa Information

All the visitors except Indians need a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are issued for 15, 30, and 60 days. A single entry visa costs $30 for 60 days and a multiple entry visa valid for 60 days costs US$80. You should pay in US dollars and have with you one copy of your passport photo.

One month visa extensions are available from the department of immigration in Kathmandu. They cost $30 per month. As a tourist you can only stay in Nepal for a maxim five month period in any one year. It is possible to get a visa for longer than five months by studying, teaching or undertaking research at the university or any institution recognized by the government.

A visa can be obtained at the airport on arrival or at any border point with India, or you can get before you depart from the Nepalese embassy in your country. You can ask for further information at Kathmandu Immigration office.

Tourists/visitors can also get into Nepal by overland. Some of the main entry points/borders are: 

Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, Belhiya (Bhairahawa) / Sunauli, Nepalgunj, Dhangadi, Jogbani (Biratnagar), Mahendra Nagar in Nepal-India border and Kodari Friendship Bridge in Nepal-China (Tibet) border.

Tourist Visa Extension

Visa extension fee for 15 days or less is US $ 30 or equivalent convertible currency and visa extension fee for more than 15 days is US$ 2 per day

Tourist visa can be extended for a maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January – December).

Gratis visa for 30 days available only for tourists of SAARC countries.

Indian nationals do not require visa to enter into Nepal.

Transit visa for one day can be obtained from Nepal's immigration offices at the entry points upon the production of departure flight ticket via Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal, by paying US $ 5 or equivalent convertible currency.
